Swatched: Priti NYC Empress Tree

Posted on 21. Nov, 2011 by in Tried and Tested

Warning, obvious statement ahead…

Priti polishes are pretty.

I have been interested in this brand since I got my first bottle about a year ago. They’re a non-toxic 3-free range of nail polish, and while 3-free isn’t exactly a unique selling point these days, the fact they are organic does help them stand out on shelves.

Illamasqua for Myer Spring Summer 11/12

Posted on 12. Aug, 2011 by in Inside Scoop

For all the craziness of the hair at last nights Myer Spring Summer Collection Show, the nails were surprisingly pared back. We know glitter is going to be big, but last night it was on the hair rather than the nails.

The inspiration was the colours of the Australian desert – the way the light moves and reflects off the surface and creates white heat mirages. Delicious. Two creamy colours were picked to add a sun-bleached effect.

Illamasqua Blow is a creamy-yet-bold pastel yellow (similar to OPI Banana Bandanna) which is not for everyone, but looks nice when done well.

Illamasqua Wink is a sweet lilac purple that anyone could wear (I had Eyeko Lilac polish on yesterday when I was backstage and it was very similar). Purples are still hot, so give it a try! You’ll be able to buy the Eyeko polish soon from a very special retailer…

Illamasqua polishes are $34/15ml and available exclusively from Myer.

Check out the full round up of hair and makeup on Stuff That I Bought. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but it was pretty awesome.

Cheap & Cheerful: Sportsgirl Nail It! Iris

Posted on 01. Jul, 2011 by in Tried and Tested

I love Sportsgirl nail polishes. I have professed my love for them before, and I was over the moon when they switched suppliers/formulas earlier this year (long story short – old old polish was excellent, old polish in round bottles was yuck, new polish is back to excellent).

Coming soon: Zoya Dannii – part of the Intimate Collection

Posted on 24. May, 2011 by in Coming Soon

When is a raven like a writing desk? Or rather, when is a glitter like a foil? Because even though this lovely polish from Zoya is actually a fine metallic glitter, it looks like a foil once it hits the nail.

Meet Dannii. Named after the inimitable Dannii Minogue, who is a huge fan of Zoya. (I’m a huge fan of Zoya too…where is my nail polish? Oh right, international celebrity). Dannii is a metallic lilac with a pink base. It’s the loads of fine silver flecks throughout that give it the foil effect – it catches the light in different ways and has multiple personalities.

Help a reader: looking for lilac

Posted on 03. May, 2011 by in Help a Reader

Don’t you hate it when you have seen someone wearing a polish shade that you Just. Have. To Have. Alas, it’s an old/discontinued/limited edition shade or hard to find brand and you stew on it until you’re convinced no polish will ever be as great as the one you have in your head. Nail File reader Sue is feeling that pain right now. Sue says:

Hello, I  have seen a great Sportsgirl nail polish on a girl – sorry I don’t know name of this color. It is from a couple of years ago so there is a good chance it may never be seen again (!), but hopefully someone out there may be able to help. It is a sort of pale blue/purple lavender base shade with a blue shade as a sort of shimmer. It is hard to describe and I feel like I may have done it an injustice. If anyone thinks they may know which polish I mean could you let me know.

If you think you have this polish or something like it in your collection, please leave a comment and put Sue out of her misery!

News alert: Oroton release 6 nail colours

Posted on 09. Sep, 2010 by in New On Shelf

Luxury brand Oroton are dipping their (well manicured) toe into the varnish pool by releasing 6 gorgeous colours online and in store.

The 6 colours are: Flamingo (vivid pink), Vibrant Orange (very citrus-y), Natural (sheer baby pink), Purple Passion (a very light lilac), Midnight (black) and Smog (taupe-y mushroom – pictured). The packaging is a sleek rectangular bottle with a silver lid and the signature O emblazoned on the front. Bottles are priced at $25 each.

The colours in this collection reflect Oroton’s spring/summer palette and their next release (exciting!) will match the colours of the AW11 range.

Smog is a very similar shade to one of the new season Chanel polishes – stay tuned for news on that.
