Nail news: Upcoming collections

Posted on 11. Jan, 2011 by in Coming Soon

Hold on to your cowboy hats, berets and nautical caps, there are some fabulous collections from some of the big houses coming to shelves near you in the near future…

  • OPI’s Texas Lone Star Collection is 12 bold shades, with a couple of neutrals for good measure. My heart is beating a little faster for San Tan-tonio and Do You Think I’m Tex-y. They will be available on February 1st.
  • Speaking of Feb 1st, that’s also the day the Justin Beiber for Nicole by OPI set of 6 hits the shelves. Get ready to rock it.
  • The first look at Essie’s spring 2011 collection (our autumn) means we’re off to the French Riviera, with six beautiful pastel shades. I am really excited about this range! This is still a couple of months away, but I am predicting the blue Cote d’Azure will be one of the biggest colours of the year.
  • Speaking of the Riviera, China Glaze has us out on the water with their Spring 2011 collection Anchors Away (again, our autumn). This amazing collection is half bold jewel tones and half amazing neutrals. I am drooling over Sea Spray, Pelican Bay and Below Deck like nobodies business.

Stay tuned for swatches coming soon…

Tried and tested: China Glaze Poolside matte fluorescent

Posted on 23. Sep, 2010 by in Rate The Range, Tried and Tested

It’s always exciting when a brand does something a bit different, and China Glaze have done exactly that with their matte fluorescent Poolside collection. I tested two of the colours, blue and orange, and was blown away. Blown away!

I have said it before and I’ll say it again – China Glaze have a fantastic formula. Their polishes have a lot of staying power, and almost never chip (although matte doesn’t have the staying power of regular glossy polish – it did chip after a couple of days, which is normal for matte). They have loads of pigment and they paint on really well, and I have found they don’t streak. As an aside, China Glaze is ’3 free’, that is, no toulene, DBP and added formaldehyde.

New on shelf: China Glaze Poolside neon collection

Posted on 02. Sep, 2010 by in New On Shelf

Let’s get into the swing of things for summer, shall we? I know we’re only two days into spring, but there is nothing like forward planning.

We know that pastels are a huge trend for spring and summer 2010/11, but you can’t have summer without brights, and there are some fab collections coming our way (OPI Summer Flutter and Zoya Flash are both making my heart sing). This is the brightest of the bright, but with a twist. Matte.

Doublemint fun – aqua dupes

Posted on 30. Jul, 2010 by in Find Me A Dupe

I discovered by accident that ORLY – Gumdrop and China Glaze – For Audrey are exact dupes when I chipped my ORLY Gumdrop manicure and didn’t have the polish on hand to touch it up. I whipped out my For Audrey in the hope it would be similar and BAM deadset match. For Audrey is just the teeniest, tiniest hint darker than Gumdrop, but they are so close you may as well call them twins.

Finding a dupe for Chanel Nouvelle Vague

Posted on 23. Jun, 2010 by in Find Me A Dupe

Did you miss out on the Chanel polishes? So did I. Bummer. Mind you, it’s hard to justify $120 for three nail polishes; I love polish, but that’s a little extreme even for me. As I mentioned the other day though, I have been tracking down alternatives so you can be on-trend for a fraction of the price.

The turquoise is a tricky colour but there are some beautiful options on the market.
