Tricks of the trade: Cuticle balm

Posted on 27. Aug, 2010 by in Hints and Tips

There is a really quick and easy way to keep your cuticles in good condition – rub a balm into them. When you put it like that it seems so obvious, right?

There are three fabulous balms that are small enough to fit in your pocket and potent enough that they will protect, heal and hydrate your cracked cuticles in a flash. Bonus: you can also use them on elbows, chapped lips, hands, knees and to give cheeks a soft glow.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic “All-One” Organic Body Balm – $7.95/14g (health food & organic stores)

This cute little tin is the perfect pocket pal – pop one in every handbag. Contains organic beeswax, organic jojoba, avocado and hemp oils for hydrating, protecting and germ killing. Comes in assorted scents – orange, peppermint, lavender, patchouli lime, naked (unscented) and baby-mild (also unscented).

Jurlique Love Balm – $15/15ml (Jurlique stores and kiosks)

Another little pot perfect for tucking in your desk drawer. Packed with Vitamin E, olive, soybean and safflower oil to boost moisture. Naturally (very lightly) scented with tangerine oil for a slight citrus buzz.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant – $38/50ml (Elizabeth Arden counters in David Jones & Myer)

This one is a tube and is a bit more sticky than the other two (more cream, less salve) but very soothing and a tube will last you for ages. It contains vitamin E, beta-hydroxy and petrolatum (similar to paw paw ointment – in my opinion don’t use this on your lips, but that’s just me). Keep an eye out because this product is celebrating 100 years and they have done a range of limited edition pots and jars.
